Giving Back

Mastoran supports many local causes in the communities that we call home.  But that’s only part of our approach to giving back.  At Mastoran we believe that success comes with a responsibility to act boldly to help others.  That’s why we have made the Jimmy Fund and cancer research our special cause.

The idea grew from Mastoran co-founder Paige Kohler’s battle with colon cancer and the life-saving treatment she received at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute in Boston.  That experience inspired the Kohler family to do something big to support the doctors, nurses, staff and scientists at Dana- Farber working to advance cancer research and patient care.

The result was a fundraising program launched by Mastoran Burger King restaurants and the Jimmy Fund.  It works like this: customers donate $1 and get a scratch card that is guaranteed to win at least one item worth $1 from the Burger King menu.  Several other larger prizes are also awarded.  All proceeds from the scratch cards are donated to the Jimmy Fund.

Through their relationships and advocacy with other Burger King franchisees, the Mastoran team and the Jimmy Fund have spread the fundraising program, now called “A Chance for Kids & Families”, to Burger King restaurants in 10 states.  Old Navy and Aubuchon Hardware have also joined as corporate partners.

As of January 2016, the program has raised $14 million for Dana-Farber and the Jimmy Fund and it continues to grow annually.
